Publisher's summary

Russell Mann is one of the brightest young talents in the National Basketball Association, and he’s on the verge of signing a new contract worth $100 million or more.

But people close to him keep turning up dead.

In the third installment of the best-selling Billy Beckett Series, Billy finds himself representing the troubled star, a young man he has shepherded from the tough streets of the Bronx to the bright lights of the NBA’s Orlando Magic. Despite Billy’s guidance, violence seems to stalk Russell at every turn, and the agent unwittingly finds himself tangled in a web of death and deceit. Blackmailed and confronted with the prospect of forfeiting millions, Billy must answer a terrifying question: should he choose his client or his conscience?

In a riveting novel layered with twists and intrigue, Billy must successfully navigate a dark path full of haunting secrets, some old and some new.

Overall review

Not his finest moment. Scott is one of my favourite writers, but this story falls short of his usual efforts. The automated reading was the best part, so much better than the computer version.

Excellent suspense thriller!

When author Scott Pratt died late in 2018 he left several incomplete manuscripts which his family has hired other authors to complete.. Some of those were about a professional sports agent named Billy Beckett. Like all of Pratt's novels these are set in the mountains of east Tennessee. RIPCORD is the third novel in the Billy Beckett series and Pratt's friend Kelly Hodge completed the novel. I, and other Scott Pratt fans, are happy that his family in taking the steps to complete his partially written novels. Tim Campbell has narrated all of Scott Pratt's novels. He does a great job.

COME. ON!!!

The main character (Billy Becket) purposely goads a man who he knows is uncontrollable and has murderered several people?! He tells the murderer that he's not on board with murder and would no longer represent him. Then, at the request of said murderer, he drives to the flop house, weaponless, where one of the murders took place and where his own murder is to take place. Really?!?! Just. DUMB!!! Tim Campbell is amazing as always. The secondary story around Rachel's whereabouts and the reasons she went off the deep-end was ok (though it seemed a bit incomplete) so I added a star for that but the story around Russell Mann was pretty ridiculous and unbelievable. The first 2 stories in this series were good; this one, not so much.
