It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Story
Four brand-new horror novellas all about books, stories, manuscripts—the written word has never had sharper teeth. In The Skin of Her Teeth, a cursed novel drives people to their deaths. A delivery job turns deadly in The Dark Brothers' Last Ride. In This Book Belongs to Olo, a lonely child has dangerous control over an usual pop-up book. A choose-your-own adventure game spirals into an uncanny reality in The Story. Full of creepy suspense, these collected novellas are perfect for fans of Paul Tremblay, Stephen King, and Joe Hill.

ugh. AI reader
it's "seven o'clock o'clock"? and the character is from the book IT, pronounced "it", not "eye tee" like it's something to do with computers. pet peeves.

The story left me completely unsatisfied,
At times, the story was extremely interesting, but ultimately it was not worth being related to Stephen King in any way, shape or form, and on top of that the AI Reading of the text was completely unsatisfying. No inflection no emotion completely generic

Book Content
loved the book. I could see it as a movie. This would have been excellent with a great narrator.

Love the story, but the AI is not OK
This book is narrated by Virtual Voice which is a computer reading the book. Overall, it's OK. I find the Virtual Voice leaves me cold. It lacks the natural warmth and rhythm that a human infuses their voice with when we speak. In this reading, whenever the author has used the acronym SAIC for Special Agent In Charge, the Virtual Voice reads it as a single word instead of the acronym. Sadly, this took me several times of hearing it before I realized what was truly being said. Also, when it reads military time, it reads it incorrectly. Instead of reading 0800 as 0-800, it read it as 0-8-0-0; and 1440 as 1-4-4-0.
If you can overlook some minor reading oddities, this is a good book and I would recommend it.

Real People Please
The story is pretty good. What sucks is the AI voice doing the reading. There is NO inflection of any emotions. If you want to get people interested/involved then you need a human being to voice the narrative.

Don't Be Fooled By AI
Horrible narration. At first you think you're hearing an actual narrator but then after maybe a chapter, you realize the monotony of the reader. Could've been a great story if not read by a robot who is unable read. listen for the 911 call when the operator says, "Nine hundred eleven, what's your emergency?"

An enjoyable easy read for those who like thrillers!
I was looking for a fun, easy read and this filled the need. It was exciting to listen to the detectives piece together the case and there were some unexpected moments as everything unraveled.
The AI narration was better than I expected, but the program had trouble pronouncing some words (I had to stop and Google titles for FBI agents, and realized that the AI was pronouncing SAC Tessler as Sayek Tessler. It took me out of the story until I figured out what it was trying to say).
Overall if you are a fan of crime novels, Stephen King, and whodunnit stories, you will enjoy this!

Thumbs down for virtual voice narration
I thought the story was very good, but I almost wouldn’t recommend it because the virtual voice narration was so awful that it was distracting. The intonations and Voice inflections were ridiculous and any abbreviations or telling the time was beyond its capability so it just made things up.
