Publisher's summary

“I devoured this book in one day, and I guarantee you will too.”—Julie Clark, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Flight and The Lies I Tell

“An expertly woven story of love, revenge, and murder. In a world where so many books feel so similarthis was a refreshingly unique read and an addictive blend of love and mystery that I couldn’t put down. This is storytelling at its finest and I can’t recommend this book enough.”—AR Torre, New York Times bestselling author of Every Last Secret

Bestselling romance author Sarina Bowen’s debut thriller, about one woman’s search for the truth after receiving a text from her deceased ex.

She thought it was love. Then he vanished.

On an ordinary Monday morning, Ariel Cafferty's phone buzzes with a disturbing text message. Something’s happened. I need to see you. Meet me under the candelabra tree ASAP. The words would be jarring from anyone, but the sender is the only man she ever loved. And it's been several years since she learned he died.

Seeing Drew’s name pop up is heart-stopping. Ariel’s gut says it can’t be real. But she goes to the tree anyway. She has to.

Nobody shows. But the text upends everything she thought she knew about the day he left her. The more questions she asks, the more sinister the answers get. Only two things are clear: everything she was told five years ago is wrong, and someone is still lying to her.

The truth has to be out there somewhere. To safeguard herself—and her son—she’ll have to find it before it finds her. And with it, the answer to what became of Drew.

For fans of Laura Dave and Julie Clark, but with a heart-stopping romance that only Sarina Bowen can execute, The Five Year Lie is a spine-tingling thriller that will have you guessing until the very end.

Great story

Great narration and story definitely worth a credit. Keeps you on your toes. Just wish it was duet but my only gripe everything else was great

Best story I've listened to in years!

What a wonderful thriller and romance all wrapped up together. The narration was fantastic. I'm usually very harsh on female narrators but Kathleen Early did a fantastic job of drawing me in and making me feel part of the story. I rooted for all them while I tried to figure out the mystery. 5 star plus more!

Amazing thriller

I couldn't stop listening to the book. So many twists and turns and I loved the pace of the plot and I loved reading about Ariel, Draw and little Buzz.

Perfection

I freaking loved this audiobook. The narration is perfect and the story of fantastic. I love a good mystery/thriller/suspense and Sarina nailed it.

Fave scene…the bus scene. I love the random act of kindness when Ariel needed that extra boost to keep her going🥺

I absolutely loved this!!!

Oh my gosh, I loved this! I am not a thriller reader, but I do love a suspenseful romance. The Five Year Lie hooked me from the start. I loved trying to figure out everything with Ariel. I had some theories, some right and some not. I loved the pace. There was also some new nugget or turn in the story. I enjoyed Ariel trying to uncover what was going on with Drew, but I still really enjoyed Ariel herself and Buzz. Ariel was really interesting herself, and I loved seeing her with the adorable little Buzz. I did not want to put this down at all! I love all of Sarina's other work, and her writing a thriller was just *chef's kiss*

A Great First Thriller!

Ariel Cafferty received a text from her deceased boyfriend from 5 years ago. The text was frantic, telling her to meet him. This text changed her and her son’s life. As she investigates what happened to Drew with the help of a trusted co-worker, she discovers that now Drew was not who he said he was but that she couldn’t trust anyone. The Five Year Lie is a well written thriller. The plot had a lot of twists that kept me engrossed in the story, and the romantic subplot was done well. The characters were well developed. The setting! I’m originally from Maine and Sarina Bowen’s description was realistic enough that I felt like I was back in Portland! For her first thriller, Sarina Bowen killed it!

It’s also a great romantic suspense

Great plot & characters! Unusual & fascinating! It was only listed as a mystery & not under romance, but it is a great romance as well. It kept me guessing. Excellent narration. Best book I’ve listened to in a very long time.

Suspenseful

Engaging characters, excellent flow. Stayed up late to see how it would end, then didn’t want it to end.

Fantastic Thriller

Loved the plot! I found the plot to be interesting & believable. The confusion came with the character's POV narration. Switching back and forth from 1st person to 2nd & 3rd person POV caused me some mental whiplash & took away from the story. Not understanding why the whole story couldn't be told in 1st person POV 🤔. Loved the side stories, and the relevance to real life & 'cultural/societal norms'. Loved Arielle's motherly instincts & perspectives...cleanliness was so relatable 🙂! Lots of suspense & mystery. Some romance. However, I almost passed this story by, because the clip that I heard was not 1st person POV, which for me, makes it harder to connect with the characters. However, after reading some of the reviews online, I learned that some parts were in 1st person POV, so I gave it a try. Narration, otherwise, was great! Enough closure for me at the end. Great 1st domestic thriller!
