Story
Like the savory, simple dishes she favored, M. F. K. Fisher's writing was often "short, stylish, concentrated in flavor, and varied in form", writes Joan Reardon in her introduction to this eclectic, lively collection. Magazine writing launched and helped to sustain Fisher's long, illustrious career and in these 57 pieces, we experience again the inimitable voice of the woman widely known to have elevated food writing to a literary art.

Story
Provence, 1970 is about a singular historic moment. In the winter of that year, more or less coincidentally, the iconic culinary figures James Beard, M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, Richard Olney, Simone Beck, and Judith Jones found themselves together in the South of France. They cooked and ate, talked and argued, about the future of food in America, the meaning of taste, and the limits of snobbery.

Story
In An Extravagant Hunger, time slows and is relished, and the turning points and casual strolls of M. F. K. Fisher's life are unwrapped and savored. From the Berengaria, which washed her across the sea to France in 1929, to Le Paquis, the Swiss estate that later provided a backdrop for some of the most idyllic and fleeting moments of her life, the stories of Fisher's love for food and her love for family and men are meticulously researched and exquisitely captured in this book.

Story
The stories in The Dying Earth introduce dozens of seekers of wisom and beauty, lovely lost women, wizards of every shade of eccentricity with their runic amulets and spells. We meet the melancholy deodands, who feed on human flesh and the twk-men, who ride dragonflies and trade information for salt. There are monsters and demons. Each being is morally ambiguous: The evil are charming, the good are dangerous. All are at home.

This 1769 edition is highly sought after due to being more reader/listener friendly than the 1611 since many typos were fixed.... Dreadful Narration
The narrator on this is overly gushy and unnatural in her reading, and because it's M.F.K. Fisher's words and Fisher was nothing like this in her style or speech, it was impossible for me to continue for long. You're far better off reading this yourself than listening to this woman who uses her voice like a gushy rollercoaster, over unnatural highs and lows in a way that speaks of an amateur, not Fisher or her life.
Other than that, no complaints. The story's okay (compiled from other Fisher writings). Any of those would serve you better.
