What’s more, we’re living in an uncharted social landscape with new conventions on how to relate - one where actual phone calls are reserved for Mom (if anyone), “dropping in” is unheard-of, and “flaking out” is routine.

Sisters Emily Nagoski, PhD, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of asking us to ignore the very real obstacles and societal pressures that stand between women and well-being, they explain with compassion and optimism what we’re up against - and teach us how to fight back.

Story
None of us had a perfect childhood; we are all carrying around behaviors that don’t serve us—and may in fact be hurting us. But it doesn’t have to be that way, says licensed marriage and family therapist Vienna Pharaon. Our past might create our patterns, but we can change those patterns for the better...with the right tools. In The Origins of You, Pharaon has unlocked a healing process to help us understand our Family of Origin—the family and framework we grew up within—and examine what worked (and didn’t) in that system.

Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

I’m missing out on my life. What’s wrong with me? If that’s ever crossed your mind, and if you know there’s more to life than what you’ve been living, this audiobook is for you. It sucks to acknowledge that you are what’s keeping you from the life you want. You sacrifice what you want most for what you want in the moment. You know everything you’re supposed to do, and yet you feel stuck - limited by your past, overwhelmed by your future - in a purgatory of your own behavior.

Publisher's summary
The go-to guide for self-care - an A to Z, mental health-centric handbook from asking for help to catching some zzz’s.
Self-care is everywhere - but sound bites on this trendy subject tend to focus more on face masks and bubble baths than on its key objective: mental health. Now, top health writer Anna Borges is here to fix that in The More or Less Definitive Guide to Self-Care.
Formerly at BuzzFeed, Borges helped popularize the self-care movement in the first place, and her book distills the “self-care internet” into an A to Z list with over two hundred entries - from soul-searching prompts to simple pick-me-ups. Listeners can tailor their own routines by choosing among Borges’s strategies, which cover four distinctive realms of self-care: physical, mental, social, and spiritual.
Drawing on real-world experience (her own and others’) as well as expert advice, Borges empowers listeners to take charge of their well-being. This guide is a one-stop shop for mind, body, and soul.

Story
Like most of us, Toni Lodge tells little white lies all the time. Whether it's "I'm five minutes away" or "It must have gone to my spam folder", most of these innocent fibs are harmless. But what if you realised that you weren't just lying about the little things, but the big "life" stuff too? When Toni sat down to write this memoir, she realized that the lies she was telling herself were hiding some pretty important home truths—about her work, her identity and her mental health. In her dogged pursuit of these truths, she brazenly explores everything.

In Hello, Habits, Sasaki explains how we can acquire the new habits that we want - and get rid of the ones that don’t do us any good.

But her story has had its obstacles, including being her own parent, living in her car as a teenager, and moving to New York City to pursue her dreams. Through it all, she looked to movies, TV, and music as the family and support systems she never had.

Very Engaging Book
I lived it because they broke complex subjects into solvable steps and I walked away feeling inspired to tackle difficult task. I've might have avoided items in the past, where I feel encouraged to challenge them now.

A great book!
I am so happy I opted to listen. I must admit, I was a nervous giving this book any of my time, seeing that, “time is of the essence”. I needed a pick me up between credits, and this was it!
A wonderful book, simplifying all other self help books. It is easy to listen and gives you a lot of simple and direct information. I highly recommend!

Good, but...
There’s a disconnect between format and medium. The book is set up encyclopedically. While the information is good and the narration well done, the nature of the set-up means jumping from one topic to another disconnectedly, and the audio medium makes “see also” references pretty pointless. I gave up and ordered a copy of the printed book.

understanding, real, and inclusive
some of this might be things you've already heard but at the same time sometimes you need reminded. others are ideas ive maybe sensed but never had verbalized and understood. covers a range of issues and also addresses privilege, the reality of mental illness, and the fact that sometimes we know what to do we just can't muster the strength to do it.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for an easy, realistic, and uncomplicated resource for managing anxiety and stress. It's a quick guide however not a replacement foe actual therapy or medical care.
