Publisher's summary

"You don't think Jamie and I have secrets, do you? No, we tell each other everything", she smiled. "Including your dirty little secret. So, thinking about it, maybe it's time to start being nice to me?"

The wife: Clare is ready for a break. It's been a tough year and now she wants to put her feet up. Arriving at the Italian villa for their summer holiday, she decides it's high time her husband and his family did some of the work. After all, her husband owes her....

The husband: Even though Dan had his head turned by someone else, he's realised the error of his ways. He's here now, and he says it's for keeps. Clare can trust him, can't she? At least he'll have his brother there, to keep him in line....

The brother: Jamie is the prodigal child, back in the family fold again, after years of travelling abroad. But when he gets to the villa, he's not alone. He's brought a wife, someone none of them have met before.

The sister-in-law: Ella is everything Clare isn't. Glamorous. Young. Influential. But she knows a secret about Clare. Something that has the power to break the whole family apart.

And there's someone who will do whatever it takes to make sure that this deep secret never comes to the surface.

An utterly gripping, twisty psychological thriller perfect for fans of Before I Go to Sleep, The Girl on the Train, and Date Night.

"Tense, atmospheric psychological thriller with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. Impeccably written and a big fat 5 stars from me. Awesome!" (Number one best-selling author Angela Marsons)

A MUST READ!

Oh my gosh, I was hooked the entire time. It’s a story that was very relatable to me, so there was a bit of bias there. But it was also incredibly written: I felt I really KNEW these characters. And very clever also. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a light read with some edge, comedy, and psychological game playing! On to Sue’s next book!

Been There, Done That

Hackneyed story with completely vapid, self-centered, selfish characters. The one "plot twist" was always hinted at so it was almost predictable. The main character was so codependent she might as well have been described as a doormat. If you like petulance, you'll love this book.

bad ending

I feel as though the ending was rushed, and didn't answer many questions I had.

A great read.

This was a page-turner with a surprise ending. I enjoyed the journey. The characters were relatable and interesting.

Wish I Could Give This 4.5 Stars! Enjoyed It!

I really wish we could give half ratings, like 4 1/2 stars, 3 1/2 stars, etc. here on Audible. I would definitely have given this 4 1/2 stars overall, and the same for performance and story.

This was a very easy listen, and I found it easy to lose myself in the storyline. The time really flew by as I became more engrossed in the plot. Good plot development and character development. And I agree with what at least one other reviewer stated, that characters aren't necessarily meant to be likable in fiction, and particularly, in novels of drama and suspense! In fact, if you find yourself loathing one or more characters, the author is likely doing her or his job well. ;-)

One thing I appreciate about every Sue Watson book (that I've listened to thus far) is that she always throws in a few surprising twists near the end. Even when I sort of guess "whodunit," she still adds a twist or two that I don't see coming. And I loved how this ended!

Very much enjoyed the narrator, Diana Croft. I would absolutely like to listen to more of her narration in the future.

At times, I did notice a strange voice transition/difference in sound quality from the end of one chapter to the beginning of the next. But this was clearly a production issue, and I don't think it was anything within the narrator's control.

I give a solid 4 1/2 stars all around for this!!

I almost quit this book.

The narration was very good. It was drawn out and at times I just wanted to end it. But I came back to it and listen to it to the end and I was glad to. It was a surprising ending.

I enjoyed this book somewhat

the only thing I can't stand is how the female leads tend to be. They're all so polite and full of self-doubt. They're doormats to their husband's, their in-laws, their parents, their children, friends...you name it! They're pathetic...smh

Fabulous Narration!

I liked the story.....yes, there were some characters who were particularly irritating and many moments when you can't believe their stupidity but hey, that is real life! What really made the book for me is Diana Croft's narration. She is one of the most talented performers (and yes, her narration is a performance) I have heard. There is a whole group of characters living inside of her and stories come alive with her talent. Good job....as always!
